Rental Assistance

The rental/mortgage assistance has two components: Eviction Prevention and New Rentals. Clients must meet the component's specific eligibilty requirements as detailed in each section below in addition to general eligibility requirements for all rental assistance in order to be considered for assistance.

Eviction Prevention Assistance
New Rental Assistance

Eviction Prevention Assistance - Assistance provided to prevent eviction from current housing. Following are the conditions that may possibly qualify someone for this service in addition to the general rental assistance eligibility requirements:

  • Must not be on Section 8 or live in subsidized housing.
  • Income CANNOT BE LESS than monthly rent.
  • At time of requesting service client cannot be more than 30 days past due.
  • Late fees,legal fees or deposits are not paid by Community Action Partnership.

New Rental Assistance- Assistance provided to obtain permanent housing. Following are the conditions that may possibly qualify someone for this service in addition to the general rental assistance eligibility requirements:                   

  • Must not be on Section 8 or live in subsidized housing.
  • Income CANNOT BE LESS than monthly rent.
  • Rental assistance is for current month you move-in.
  • Client must provide signed rental/lease agreement along with receipts showing paid deposit.
  • Client must pay a portion of first month’s rent.

 Program Eligibility Requirements

  • Clients are not eligible for service if assisted previously in a 24-month period.
  • Must be able to provide I.D. and Social Security cards for everyone in the household.
  • Must be resident of San Bernardino County.
  • Client must have verifiable income for the last 30 days.
  • Client must attend rental assistance orientation and attend Springboard financial management workshop.

Motel Voucher Assistance

This service is provided on a case-by-case basis depending upon the indivual client situation.

  • Clients must show denial notice of action for homeless assistance or temporary shelter from Transitional Assistance Division (TAD)
  • If emergency is of medical nature, client must provide letter from a doctor, hospital, etc.
  • In most cases, Client MUST have arrangements for permanent housing after 7 days of provided motel assistance.
  • Client MUST provide a valid rental agreement stating move-in date.
