Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) supports the National Communication Action Partnership’s call for developing a plan to reduce and eliminate poverty in the United States.
In San Bernardino County, CAPSBC hosted the first ever Symposium on Poverty and Economic Security on May 10, 2007 at Campus Center, San Bernardino Valley College, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The purpose of the Symposium is to identify root causes of poverty in the community, formulate goals, strategies and performance measures to address the causes, and identify proven strategies that promote economic security in our communities. A panel discussion focused on specific issues of Education, Health, Employment, Housing, and Crime Prevention/Rehabilitation. In addition, breakout sessions based on panel discussion topics were conducted to capture the ideas and encourage maximum participation of those in attendance.
This Symposium is part of a series of conversations underway across the country as CAPSBC and other Community Action Agencies seek innovations to help citizens improve their economic conditions and achieve financial stability.
