MSW/BSW Intern Program

 

 

 

Who We Are

   We are a community behavioral health organization that provides clinical, case management, and psychiatric services for the County of San Bernardino, the largest geographical County in the United States. Our service team includes: Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, Nurses, Psychiatric Technicians, Addiction Specialists and Clerical staff. 
 

Our Mission
   To provide our interns with a quality, clinical training experience that will prepare them to become competent, effective and ethical Social Workers. We value diversity in our clients and our staff and are committed to provide an educational experience that promotes respect, caring, compassion, and understanding.
 

Our Philosophy
   To utilize the Recovery Model system delivery of care by providing culturally competent services that promote recovery, wellness, and resilience for adults, older adults, adolescents, children and their families in our various populations we serve. We provide services to the underserved and unserved populations. We utilize bilingual and/or interpreter services to participate in the treatment of our clients.
 

Program Information

 
University Partnerships:

   We currently collaborate with California State University at San Bernardino, Loma Linda University, University of Southern California, California State University at Long Beach and Azusa Pacific University.

Intern Selection Process:

   The Intern candidate submits a completed MSW/BSW Intern interest form, participates in an interview with the intern selection committee, and an individual interview with the field instructor that may be assigned to provide your clinical supervision.

Clinical Supervision:

   The intern is provided one hour of weekly clinical supervision and two hours of group supervision biweekly. A schedule of various clinical topics and programs are presented through out the year.

Trainings:

   The intern participates and has interactive group trainings and has access to electronic DBH trainings, and is encouraged to participate in outside trainings that pertain to clinic and program needs.
 

Internships

 
DBH Paid Internship:

Public Service Employment (PSE)
    DBH has six positions for MSW interns that pay $15.20 per hour and six positions for BSW interns that pay $10.04 per hour.

Unpaid Internships:

University Mental Health Stipend Program
   Students that meet the criteria and requirements for this program will be paid $18,500 for their 2nd year placement by their University. Contact your school of social work.

Unpaid Field Placements
   There are MSW and BSW placements at the various clinics and programs that are structured to meet the mandated field placement hours for their University.

 

Diversity of MSW and BSW Field Placements

 
   DBH provides a wide range of clinical training for the 1st and 2nd year MSW interns and BSW interns for field placements. Field placements meet the clinical training needs that correspond with the university learning objectives for the various levels of student interest and training needs to work with the diverse cultures and populations we serve. This has created a positive impact to meet the mandates and goals for CalSWEC, DMH, and Universities.
 

   For academic year of 2011-2012, there are field placements in all DBH regions. Training sites include clinical therapy clinics, case management, MHSA programs, which include children, adolescence, adults, older adults, and forensic programs.

  • Office of Cultural Competence and Ethnic Services (OCCES)

  • Therapeutic Alliance Program (TAP)

  • Clubhouse Expansion Program

  • Supervised Treatment After Release Program (STAR)

  • Psychiatric Triage Diversion Program

  • Forensic Adolescent Services Team (FAST)

  • Jail Mental Health Program

  • Public Defenders Office

  • Juvenile Reintegration Program

  • Alcohol & Drug Services

  • Program Support Services

  • Prevention & Early Intervention
