Traffic Division provides the safe, efficient and convenient movement of people and goods on County roadway system. We use the guidelines of the CA MUTCD in implementing and installing traffic control devices on County Maintained Road System. There are approximately 2,765 road miles in the County Maintained Road System (CMRS) with over 250,000 traffic control devices installed and continue to maintain.

There are approximately 318 bridges over County maintained roadways. Few bridges have advance weight limit signs as well as approach signs. For further information and details, click here.

There are approximately 87 railroad – highway crossings at grade. These are called public crossings. For further information and details, click here.

The County maintains 80 signalized intersections and 33 flashing beacons. For further information and details, click here. Additionally, there are 12 intersections countywide with signal warrants in the priority list nominated for future construction when funds are available.

1. Traffic engineering investigation:

a. Street Name signs.

b. Speed Zones.

c. Through Highway for the installation of stop signs.

d. No Parking in residential and non-residential roads.

e. No Parking of Commercial Vehicles over 5 tons of gross weight.

f.  School zones for signing and pavement markings.

g. Pedestrians and school painted cross-walks.

h. Striping long line centerlines and edgelines (fog line).

i.  Adults and School Pedestrians Painted Crosswalks.

2. Road Evaluation and Development review:

a. Field survey all traffic control devices (TCD) for maintenance and update the TCD inventory system.

b. Perform traffic collision surveillance study and recommend measures to prevent and reduce traffic accidents.

c.  Compile data information from CHP crash reports and update the accident file system.

d.  Prepare collision diagrams on road and at intersections.
