Associate Probation Officer (APO)
Associate Probation Officers assist the Probation Department directly in its functions
with investigative assignments, enforcing court orders, and providing specialized
treatment services in the community. This experience may serve as the window of
opportunity leading to a rewarding career by providing an overview of the Criminal
Justice System, working under the supervision of Probation Officers in the investigation
of adult and juvenile cases, monitoring caseloads, performing telephonic compliance
checks, contacting victims and gathering collateral information. They may also assist
by verifying residences, school and employment information, providing translation
services for non-English speakers, and working with adults and juveniles in drug
treatment programs.
Requirements for APO:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must not be on probation or parole
- Must have a valid California ID or Driver’s License
- Must complete a screening interview
- Must meet the documentation requirements of the Immigration Reform and Control Act
of 1986
- Must pass a background investigation, a polygraph examination, and a psychological
evaluation.
- Complete Live Scan fingerprinting and have photo ID taken by Probation
- Must have no felony convictions or criminal history or behavior which would disqualify
you as a peace officer candidate.
- Must commit to a minimum of 20 hours per month for at least one year.
