| Adelanto Police Department
Adelanto, in Spanish, means “to go forward” or “to progress”. Throughout its history, the City of Adelanto has demonstrated a strong commitment to live up to its name. The City of Adelanto, located on Highway 395 in the Victor Valley area has experienced rapid growth over the last few years. The cities population has increased from 17,000 in 2002 to approximately 29,000 in 2008. The city encompasses approximately 52 square miles and is a mixture of single family homes, businesses and large industrial companies.
In 2001, the City of Adelanto voted to contract with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department for law enforcement services. Under the command of Captain Lee Watkins, the Adelanto Sheriff’s station has 31 employees and a budget of approximately 5 million dollars. The men and women assigned to the Adelanto Sheriff’s Station are committed to Community Policing and work in partnership with city leaders, business owners and the community itself to prevent and eliminate crime. Our overall goal is to provide a safe and family oriented environment for all citizens.
The Adelanto Sheriff’s station coordinates neighborhood watch programs, Crime Free Multi-housing programs and is active with the Adelanto Chamber of Commerce. The station also has a Citizen Patrol volunteer unit, which donates thousands of hours each year to the residents of the city. Many of our citizen volunteers have lived in the City of Adelanto for over 20 years.
