Big Bear Lake

The city of Big Bear Lake plays host to two major ski resorts-Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. The influx of visitors during peak times can swell to over 100,000 on holiday weekends. We also have a beautiful village where visitors and locals alike roam through the shops seeking that special item.

When the snow melts, the city boasts a pristine lake, which many find appealing for water skiing, fishing, and sailing. It also plays host to many motion picture and commercial production companies who take advantage of the mountain décor.

The city is 14 square miles in area and has a full-time population of 6,500 residents. Volunteer organizations, including reserve deputy sheriffs, search and rescue, citizens on patrol, and the posse, are all valuable tools to provide a quality way of life and to maintain an environment for the many visitors and citizens who live in and visit the city, whose motto is "Free to Choose."

The team of deputies and staff that provides the law enforcement function to the city is dedicated to the safety of the community. The team utilizes community-based policing, hosts the Attack Drunk Driving task forces, Zero Tolerance law enforcement sweeps, and National Night Out events to send the message to criminals that neighborhoods are organizing and fighting back to thwart crime.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the city of Big Bear Lake are prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities that face law enforcement in the 21st Century.
