Loma Linda

The City of Loma Linda is a small university town that maintains a large presence in the Inland Empire and throughout the world. Long noted for its leading role in medical science and higher education, Loma Linda University Medical Center has been a national center for health, wellness and research for decades. The Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Memorial Medical Center also joined the community, and in conjunction with the Loma Linda Medical Center became the major employers of the city. Loma Linda orange groves, once the predominate land use, are giving way to residential developments as the city, with 22,000 residents continues to grow.

Traffic issues have traditionally been of utmost concern in Loma Linda. In 2006, we installed Red Light Cameras at four major intersections within Loma Linda. We currently are issuing approximately 1,200 red light citations per month with the use of these cameras.

The Citizen Patrol unit participated in the Ronald McDonald Fundraiser, the Kid's Care Fair, Kid's Day, the 38 th Annual Loma Linda Parade and Faire, and numerous other community events. The "Lunch with a Deputy" Program that was started at Bryn Mawr Elementary School continues to be very successful.   The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program currently has 25 apartment complexes participating in the program. Two complexes were added to the program in 2001. The Sheriff's Service Specialist continues to expand the Neighborhood Watch Program throughout the city also adding an additional three neighborhoods to this program this year. The program "You Are Not Alone" was added during the year and provides vital support to the senior members of our community.

The Station continues to incorporate community-policing concepts in our enforcement operation. The approach has proven effective in detecting gang and criminal activity, and significantly impacting problems in the area.   Working together with the citizens of the community, we will continue to be successful in all the facets of our operation.
