Yucaipa

Yucaipa station is not only responsible for policing the City of Yucaipa, but also for the surrounding unincorporated areas. These communities include Mentone, Oak Glen & the lower mountain communities of Mountain Home Village, Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks and Barton Flats. This area spans more than 225 square miles and includes the San Gorgonio Wilderness, home to Mt. San Gorgonio the highest peak in southern California at 11,300 feet.

Scenic Oak Glen "apple country" produces the finest apples in southern California, and is home to several large orchards which operate year round. During peak season September-December these orchards attract thousands of visitors. The San Gorgonio Wilderness along with Forest Falls attract a half million visitors annually, many of which hike the scenic challenging trails of the falls or towards San "G" summit. As you might expect some of these hikers injure themselves or become lost requiring an emergency response. Our regular patrol force is augmented by our departments Aviation Division and three separate volunteer search & rescue teams, the San Gorgonio, Valley of the Falls and Oak Glen Search & Rescue Teams. These highly trained individuals are truly "life savers" who at a moments notice give of themselves to help those in desperate need.

Our primary focus is to provide the highest quality law enforcement and public safety services at the moment they are needed. Last year our deputies responded to nearly nine thousand calls for service and investigated more than thirteen hundred crimes in our unincorporated communities. Overall reported crimes increased by 4% from the previous year, total arrests were also up and our overall crime clearance rate remains excellent.

We also focus on two areas that we consider priorities; habitual offenders & juvenile offenders. Most of the crime is committed by a small percentage of people; we believe that giving special attention to habitual offenders is an efficient approach in conducting our business. We maintain close working relationships with State Parole & County Probation and assist each other on cases of mutual interest. Juvenile crime whether it is on a school campus or in the community is another high priority. We work very closely with school officials through a combined approach involving intervention, suppression, and prevention strategies. Redlands East Valley High School (REVHS), with its more than three thousand students, while part of the Redlands school district, is located in the unincorporated community of Mentone. Most of the students at REVHS live in Redlands or Highland .

A deputy from our station is assigned to REVHS as a School Resource Officer (SRO) and works very closely with school staff, district staff and Redlands Police Department SRO's as part of their team.
